If you like the classic Peruvian Lily Alstroemeria ‘Indian Summer’ then you’ll love this new, more compact variant. Lush foliage is topped with clusters of exotic-looking apricot and yellow blooms with flashy, intricate markings. Shorter and stockier in size, it’s ideal for the front of the border or in a sturdy patio container, yet still gives a generous stem length for use in cut-flower arrangements. Blooming for up to five months of the year, these long-lasting flowers bring a fabulous splash of colour to the garden right up until the first frosts, they’re long lasting in a vase too.Pot up Alstroemeria plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, plant Peruvian Lilies in a sunny or semi shaded position in fertile, moist, well drained soil. Alternatively, plant Alstroemeria in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.Throughout the growing season, water Peruvian lilies regularly and feed container grown plants each month. When picking alstroemeria pluck the flowers rather than cutting as plucking stimulates the rhizome encourage further growth. In autumn, cut back the old Alstroemeria flower stems and apply a dry mulch of chipped bark or straw to the base of the plant to protect it from cold winter weather. Alstroemeria prefers to be left undisturbed but can be divided in autumn or spring if clumps become overcrowded.
